How to Reset Your Minecraft Server World
Do you want to start over or generate a new world? By deleting the world folders, your Minecraft server automatically creates a new world the next time it starts. In this guide, we explain how to reset the entire world or only the Overworld, Nether, or End on your Minecraft server.
Determining the correct world folders
The default name of the main world is world. Are you using a different world name? Open server.properties on the Files page and check the value after level-name=. Replace world in the table below with this value.
|
Dimension |
Folder to delete |
|---|---|
|
Overworld |
|
|
Nether |
|
|
End |
|
Paper, Spigot, and Purpur usually store the Nether and End in the separate world_nether and world_the_end folders. Vanilla, Fabric, and Forge usually store these dimensions in world/DIM-1 and world/DIM1.
Note With Vanilla, Fabric, and Forge, deleting the main world folder also resets the Nether and End because these dimensions are stored in the same folder.Tip Do you want to start completely fresh? Delete all existing world folders. This prevents the new Overworld from being combined with an old Nether or End.
Resetting the Minecraft world
Note By default, a complete reset also removes player inventories, statistics, and advancements.
- Log in to the game panel and go to your Minecraft server.
- Stop the Minecraft server if it is still running and wait until it has fully stopped.
- Create a backup of the current world if you may want to restore it later.
- Open the Files page.
- Select the world folders you want to reset. Use the table above to determine which folders to select.
- Click Delete and confirm that the selected folders may be removed.
- Start the Minecraft server using the green start button.
The server now automatically generates new world folders. As a result, the first startup takes longer than usual. You can use the console to see when the server has fully started.
