How to Install a Modpack on Your Own Minecraft Server

A modpack combines multiple mods, configuration files and often custom worlds or quests into a single package. Through the game panel, you can install modpacks directly on your Minecraft server. This guide explains how to install a modpack and what players need before they can connect.

Install a modpack

  1. Log in to the game panel and go to your Minecraft server.
  2. Stop the Minecraft server if it is still running.
  3. Open the Software page under Management.
  4. Under Modpacks, click Install a Modpack.
  5. Under Provider, select the platform where the modpack is available. Available options include ATLauncher, CurseForge, Feed The Beast, Modrinth, Technic and Voids Wrath.
  6. Find the modpack you want using Search Query and click the installation icon next to it.
  7. Under Modpack Version, select the version you want to install.
  8. Enable Delete Files to install the modpack on a clean server.
Note Delete Files permanently removes all existing server files before the modpack is installed. Only enable this option after creating a backup of everything you want to keep.
  1. Click Install Modpack and wait until the installation is complete. This may take several minutes.
  2. Open the Console page and start the Minecraft server using the green start button.
  3. Accept the Minecraft EULA if prompted by the game panel.
  4. Wait for the first startup to finish. This can take several minutes for a large modpack.

Install the modpack for players

Most modpacks must also be installed on every player’s computer. Use the provider’s launcher or app, such as the CurseForge App, Modrinth App, FTB App, ATLauncher or Technic Launcher.

Install exactly the same modpack and modpack version as on the Minecraft server. Then launch the modpack through the launcher and join the Minecraft server.

Tip Does a player receive a message about missing or mismatched mods? First check whether exactly the same modpack version is installed on the server and the player’s computer.

My modpack does not start

Does the Minecraft server fail to start or stop during startup? Check the Console. The first clear error message often identifies the mod, dependency or setting causing the problem. Also check the following:

  • Make sure the server is using the Java version required by the Minecraft version and modpack.
  • Check whether the server is exceeding its available RAM. The modpack may require more RAM than is included with your current plan.
  • Run the installation again with Delete Files enabled if files from previous server software, mods or configurations are causing conflicts.
