How to Add Your Hosting Email Account to Thunderbird

Published on July 25, 2026

Thunderbird lets you send and receive email from your ConsulHosting email account on a computer running Windows, macOS, or Linux and on an Android phone or tablet. This guide explains how to manually set up your email account in Thunderbird Desktop and Thunderbird for Android.

Note This guide is intended for email accounts included with ConsulHosting web hosting. If you use an external email provider, use the server settings supplied by that provider.

Add an email account to Thunderbird Desktop

  1. Download Thunderbird and install the application if you have not already done so.
  2. Open Thunderbird. If the account setup screen does not open automatically, click the menu icon in the top-right corner, followed by Add Account and Email.
  3. Under Full name, enter the name you want recipients to see as the sender.
  4. Enter your full email address under Email address and click Continue.
  5. Thunderbird will attempt to detect the server settings automatically. Click Manual Configuration and enter the following details:

Note Replace example.com with the domain name used by your email address. For example, if you use [email protected], enter mail.example.nl and smtp.example.nl.
  1. Click Test to verify the settings and then click Continue.
  2. Enter the password for your email account when Thunderbird prompts you and complete the setup.

Thunderbird will now synchronize your email messages and folders. This may take some time, depending on the size of your mailbox.

Add an email account to Thunderbird for Android

Note Thunderbird Mobile is only available for Android. To use the email account on an iPhone or iPad, add it to Apple Mail or another email application instead.
  1. Install Thunderbird for Android and open the app.
  2. Tap Get started when opening the app for the first time. If you have already added an account, tap the menu icon in the top-left corner, click Settings at the bottom, and then select Add account.
  3. Enter your full email address and tap Next.
  4. Check the configuration Thunderbird finds. Tap Edit configuration if the settings do not match the details below.
  5. Make sure the following settings are used:
