How to Create a New Email Account Using DirectAdmin

Published on July 24, 2026

An email account creates a separate mailbox for an email address on your own domain, such as [email protected]. You can use it to send and receive messages through webmail or an email application. This guide explains how to create a new email account in DirectAdmin and check that it works.

Note If your domain uses an external email provider, messages will not be delivered to your mailbox in DirectAdmin. Your domain’s MX records determine which provider handles your email.

Creating a new email account

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin.
  2. Use the domain selector at the top of the page to make sure the correct domain is selected.
  3. Under E-mail Manager, open the E-mail Accounts page.
  4. Click Create Account.
  5. Under Username, enter the part before the at sign. For example, enter info to create the email address [email protected].
  6. Enter a strong and unique password under Password, or let DirectAdmin generate one.
  7. Under E-mail Quota (MB), optionally specify how much storage the email account may use. Leave the default setting unchanged if you do not want to set a separate limit.
  8. Under Daily Send Limit, optionally specify how many emails the account may send each day.
  9. Click Create Account and wait for DirectAdmin to confirm that the email account has been created.
Tip Store the password in a password manager. You will need the complete email address and this password to log in through webmail or an email application.
Tip Do you only want to forward messages to an existing email address without creating a separate mailbox? Under E-mail Manager, create an email forwarder under Forwarders instead of an email account.

Checking the email account through webmail

  1. In DirectAdmin, open the Webmail: Roundcube page under E-mail Manager.
  2. Enter the complete email address under Username, such as [email protected].
  3. Enter the configured password under Password and click Login.
  4. Send a test message to another email address.
  5. Reply to the test message from the other email address to verify that your new email account can also receive messages.
