How to Add Your Hosting Email Account to Apple Mail

Published on July 27, 2026

Apple’s Mail app lets you send and receive email from your ConsulHosting email account on a Mac, iPhone, or iPad. By using IMAP, your email messages and folders remain synchronized across all your devices. This guide explains how to manually set up your email account in Mail on macOS, iOS, and iPadOS.

Note This guide is intended for email accounts included with ConsulHosting web hosting. If you use an external email provider, use the server settings supplied by that provider.

Add an email account to Mail on macOS

  1. Open Mail. If the screen for adding an account does not open automatically, click Mail in the menu bar and then Add Account.
  2. Enter your full email address and click Continue.
  3. Select Other Mail Account and click Continue.
  4. Under Name, enter the name you want recipients to see as the sender, check your email address, enter the password for your email account, and click Sign In.
  5. If Mail cannot find the settings automatically, select IMAP as the account type and enter the following details:

Setting

Incoming server

Outgoing server

Server

mail.example.com

smtp.example.com

User Name

Your full email address

Your full email address

Password

The password for your email account

The password for your email account

Note Replace example.com with the domain name used by your email address. For example, if you use [email protected], enter mail.example.com and smtp.example.com.
  1. Click Sign In.
  2. Make sure Mail is selected. Deselect Notes if you do not want to synchronize notes with the email account, and then click Done.

Mail will now synchronize your email messages and folders. This may take some time, depending on the size of your mailbox.

Check the server settings in Mail on macOS

Mail normally manages the port numbers and security settings automatically. If you cannot send or receive email, check the server settings.

  1. Click Mail in the menu bar, followed by Settings and Accounts.
  2. Select your email account and open Server Settings.
  3. Disable Automatically manage connection settings for both the incoming and outgoing servers.
  4. Check that the following settings are used:

mail.example.com

smtp.example.com

Add an email account to Mail on an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings, tap Apps, Mail, and then Mail Accounts.
  2. Tap Add Account.
  3. Enter your full email address and tap Next.
  4. Tap Add Other Account, followed by Mail Account.
  5. Enter the following details and tap Next:
  • Name: the name you want recipients to see as the sender.
  • Email: your full email address.
  • Password: the password for your email account.
  • Description: a recognizable name for the account, such as ConsulHosting.
  1. If Mail cannot find the settings automatically, select IMAP and enter the following details:

Setting

Incoming Mail Server

Outgoing Mail Server

Host Name

mail.example.com

smtp.example.com

User Name

Your full email address

The password for your email account

Note Replace example.com with the domain name used by your email address. Always enter the user name and password for the outgoing server, even if these fields are marked as optional.
  1. Tap Next and wait while Mail verifies the settings.
  2. Make sure Mail is enabled. Disable Notes if you do not want to synchronize notes with the email account, and then tap Save.

Open the Mail app to synchronize your email messages and folders. Because the account was added using IMAP, your calendars and contacts will not be synchronized.

Check the server settings on an iPhone or iPad

If you cannot send or receive email, check that Mail is using the correct security settings and port numbers.

  1. Open Settings, tap Apps, Mail, and then Mail Accounts.
  2. Tap the email account and then Account Settings.
  3. Under Outgoing Mail Server, tap SMTP and then the primary server. Check that Use SSL is enabled, Authentication is set to Password, and Server Port is set to 465.
  4. Return to Account Settings, tap Advanced, and check that Use SSL is enabled and Server Port is set to 993.
  5. Tap Done to save any changes.

After completing the setup, send a test message to another email address and reply to it. This allows you to check that you can both send and receive email.
