How to Change Your Minecraft Server Icon
Published on July 30, 2026
A custom server icon makes your Minecraft server more recognizable in the Minecraft Java Edition server list. The logo is displayed next to your server’s name and MOTD. In this guide, we explain how to create a suitable server icon and add it through the game panel.
Create a Minecraft server icon
A Minecraft server icon must be a PNG image measuring exactly 64 by 64 pixels. The file must also be named exactly server-icon.png.
Upload the logo you want to use as your server icon below. The image will automatically be converted to the correct format and can be downloaded with the filename server-icon.png.
Upload your logoDrag the file here or pick it from your devicePNG, JPG, WEBP, GIF or AVIF · up to 10 MB
Tip We recommend using a square image with few small details. The server icon is displayed at only 64 by 64 pixels, so small text and details may not be clearly visible.
Upload the server icon
- Log in to the game panel and go to your Minecraft server.
- Open the Files page.
- Make sure you are in the server’s root directory. This is the folder that contains files such as
server.propertiesand folders such aspluginsandworld. - Click the Upload button and upload the
server-icon.pngfile you created using the widget above. - If a file named
server-icon.pngalready exists in the root directory, delete it first. - Restart the Minecraft server using the grey restart button.
- Open the server list in Minecraft Java Edition and click Refresh if necessary. The new server icon is now displayed next to your server.
Note Are you using BungeeCord or Velocity? Upload server-icon.png to the root directory of the proxy server that players connect to. A server icon on a connected backend server is not displayed in the server list.My server icon is not showing
If the server icon does not appear after starting the Minecraft server, check the following:
- The file is named exactly
server-icon.png, using lowercase letters and a hyphen. - The file is located directly in the root directory and not in a folder such as
plugins, modsorworld. - The image is saved as a PNG and measures exactly 64 by 64 pixels. The file created using the widget above automatically meets these requirements.
- The Minecraft server was fully restarted after uploading the file.
- You refreshed the server list or restarted Minecraft Java Edition.
- A plugin or proxy configuration for the server list is not overriding the default server icon.
