How to Manage the DNS Settings for Your Domain Name

DNS (Domain Name System) determines which servers and services your domain name points to. In this guide, we explain how to manage your domain’s DNS through the ConsulHosting client area.

Opening DNS Management

1. Log in to the client area.
2. Open the Domains page.
3. Click the DNS tab at the top of the page.
4. Do you not have DNS management yet? Order it free of charge through the page that appears.
5. Click the domain name for which you want to manage the DNS.

The DNS records are displayed by record type. From here, you can create, edit, delete, or import records. You can also apply a DNS template and configure DNSSEC.

Tip When you register or transfer a domain name to ConsulHosting, DNS management is automatically created for the domain name.

Adding a Domain Name to DNS Management

Is the domain name not listed in the DNS overview yet? You can add it manually.

1. Open the DNS tab under Domains.
2. Click Add Domain.
3. Enter the domain name you want to add.
4. Do you want to add multiple domain names at once? Enter each domain name on a new line.
5. Click Add.

Note To use ConsulHosting’s DNS management, the domain name must point to the nameservers displayed at the bottom of the DNS page. If you use different nameservers, changes made through ConsulHosting’s DNS management will have no effect.

Managing DNS Records

Click a domain name in the DNS overview to open its DNS records. You will then have the following options:

• Click Add Record and select a record type to create a new DNS record.
• Click Edit next to an existing record to modify it.
• Click the trash can icon next to a record to delete it.
• Click Import to import records from a zone file or clone records from another domain name.
• Click Templates to apply an available DNS template.
• Click DNSSEC to configure DNSSEC for the domain name.

Managing DNS for Multiple Domain Names

Do you want to make the same change to multiple domain names? You can select multiple domain names in the DNS overview.

1. Open the DNS tab under Domains.
2. Select the domain names to which you want to apply the change.
3. Choose one of the following options:

• Click Clone DNS Records to copy records to the selected domain names.
• Click Templates to apply the same DNS template.
• Click Add Record to create the same record for all selected domain names.

4. Check which domain names the change will be applied to.
5. Complete the selected change.

Removing a Domain Name from DNS Management

1. Open the DNS tab under Domains.
2. Find the domain name you want to remove from DNS management.
3. Click the trash can icon to the right of the domain name.
4. Enter the domain name to confirm that you want to remove its DNS.
5. Finally, click Delete.

Note This removes the domain name and its associated records from DNS management. The domain name registration will not be cancelled.
