How to Change the Nameservers for Your Domain Name

The nameservers of your domain name determine where its DNS records are managed. Do you want to use an external DNS provider or move DNS management back to ConsulHosting? To do this, you need to change the nameservers of your domain name. In this guide, we explain how to do this through the ConsulHosting client area.

Changing the Nameservers

Note Make sure all required DNS records have been configured with the new DNS provider before changing the nameservers. Incorrect or missing DNS records may cause services such as your website and email to become unavailable. Before changing the nameservers, also make sure DNSSEC is disabled.

1. Log in to the client area.
2. Open the Domains page.
3. Click the domain name for which you want to change the nameservers.
4. Scroll down to the Nameservers section.
5. Click Edit.
6. Under Nameserver settings, choose one of the following options:

• Select Our nameservers if you want to manage the DNS through ConsulHosting.
• Select Custom if you want to use the nameservers of an external DNS provider.

7. Did you select Custom? Enter the nameservers provided by your DNS provider under Primary and Secondary.
8. If necessary, click Add more to use up to five nameservers.
9. Click Save changes.

Note It may take up to 24 hours for the updated nameservers to be used everywhere.
