How to Change Your Minecraft Server Version

Minecraft servers offer many options for versions, server software, and configuration. Sometimes you may want to switch to a different Minecraft version, for example to use new features, plugins, mods, or specific gameplay settings. In this guide, we explain step by step how to easily change the version of your Minecraft server at ConsulHosting.

    Note

Always create a backup before changing the version or server software of your Minecraft server. Some worlds, plugins, or mods may not work properly with a different Minecraft version.

    Changing your version

    1
Log in to the game panel and go to your Minecraft server.
    2
    Open the Versions page.
    3

Click the server software you want to use and then choose the Minecraft version you want to install.

    Tip

Choose server software that matches your server. For example, use Paper, Purpur, Spigot, Sponge, or Magma for plugins, and Forge, NeoForge, Fabric, or Magma for mods.

    Note

Only enable Delete server files if you are sure all files on your Minecraft server may be removed. Without a backup, this data cannot be restored.
    4
    Enable the Accept EULA button.
    5
    Click the Install button.
    6
Start your server by clicking the green start button in the top left.

    Tip

Is your server not starting? Check whether the server is using the correct Java version.
